When was the earth formed?
When was the earth formed?
Written by Dr. Hafeezul Hasan
Has the earth always existed?
Will the earth always shine?
This question is important.
Why?
Because we were born on this earth. We live on this earth.
Our ancestors are buried here. Their ancestors before them.
Everything in the universe has an end.
The cause is the flow of time between the two events of survival and annihilation.
So this question comes to mind that when the earth was created and when will the earth end?
There is no birth certificate of the land to see its date of birth, nor can the people of Nadra tell when it was born?
So how to estimate the time of his birth?
Ever since we learned science in modern ways, we have been in a quest to learn as much as we can about the earth, the universe, and life.
For the past four hundred years, scientists have been considering different methods for determining the age of the Earth. The first method was thought to be the age of the Earth from changes in sea level. The idea was that the change in surface was caused by the cooling of the Earth
It was connected.
If we used the hypothesis of how long it took for the hot Earth to cool, we might know how old the Earth is. But this method was not correct.
The fluctuations of the seas and the ratio of oxygen and salinity in its water were connected with many other factors. So it was difficult to determine the age of the earth.
Then the nineteenth and twentieth
The century has come.
Age of research on the atom.
Discovery of radioactivity in different elements. Scientists found that atoms of different elements also have some extra neutrons.
Call them the isotopes of these elements
are
In an object, for example, certain elements in rocks such as normal atoms of uranium and their isotope ratios can be used to estimate how old that rock is.
This is because isotopes disintegrate.
And break down and change into other elements.
This decay happens at a certain time.
Scientists observe how long it takes for the isotopes of different elements in rocks to halve.
This is called half-life.
This method is called radiometric dating.
(This process is detailed in another post).
But today this method is an authentic method of science by which we can determine the age of many old objects.
So scientists used radiometric dating of old rocks on Earth to estimate how old it is.
However, there was a problem with this too.
The composition of rocks on Earth continues to change over billions of years due to tectonic plates and other factors.
So even the oldest rock may actually have been altered by these factors.
So how do we get the oldest unaltered rock on Earth?
The answer is elsewhere in the solar system such as the moonOr from meteorites.
But why from there?
Today we know how the moon was formed.
The Moon was actually formed when the early Earth collided with another planet.
When a planet the size of Mars collided with the Earth in the past, the surface of the early Earth was lifted and over time gathered around the Earth to form the Moon.
Similarly, due to this collision, many small fragments were also scattered in the form of meteorites in the solar system.
So from these meteorites and moon rocks we have radiometric The dating process can tell how old the earth is.
According to the estimates so far, the earth came into existence about 4.543 billion years ago, but in this age 50 million years.
More or less can be an error.
In the future, due to innovation in scientific methods, we
An even better estimate can determine the age of the Earth.
